This is in regards to the article "New eBay Policy Has Users Go Goodwill Hunting," which was included with the 100th issue of Auction-Bytes. (Congratulations on the milestone, by the way!)

The writer, Kevin Tyerman, alerted us to the fact that if you have an ID that is an email address, eBay will no longer allow it and a new ID is required. As Mr. Tyerman pointed out, replacing a long-time eBay user ID could be a daunting task because most unique names have already been chosen. I stumbled upon this suggestion somewhere along the line and can't remember where, but I thought it might be useful here.

I'll make up an eBay user ID, so let's say the seller's ID is:

collect@online.comm

If you replace the "@" symbol and "." with the word, the seller could retain the name and it would look like this:

collectatonlinedotcomm

Yes, it's a bit clumsy, but it seems to be a plausible solution. Although it does not address Mr. Tyerman's valid concern as to not being able to post the previous ID (because it is an email address, eBay logic...go figure), it provides a way to keep your unique name.
