Posted at December 31, 1969, 6:00 pm: Without a doubt there are issues that ebay simply does not address, including customer service, fees and fraud. The fees are hurting sellers because it simply eats too much of the profit from a sale. On average ebay reaps 5-7% of a sale price. That's a very high cost on the seller's margin! I think the need for viable competitors to ebay is evident, but it is hard work. We launched DealMania less than 3 weeks ago and we already have 600+ auctions and new users signing up daily. We started by acquiring the dealmania site which was already a popular coupon site. This allowed us to start out with a consistent flow if shoppers. The sellers who have listed items on DealMania are seeing bids and I think this is what's driving our growth. As we begin to promote DealMania more sales will grow even more. I think Jana is right is saying sellers should use other venues if ebay doesn't work for them. Using other auction sites is worth the time, especially if a site is dedicated to marketing itself to bring you customers.
