Posted at December 31, 1969, 6:00 pm: I think Mark may be showing us one of the future incarnations of e-commerce. Using auction software to sell to a niche market without using e-bay on your own site. I believe any business that is dependent on another business for success or even staying above water is doomed to fail (unless you have a partnership agreement with the other business). For example, if my sales were completely dependent on my google ranking than I'm in plenty of trouble every time google changes their ranking system. I have no control over what google does and I can't even presume that they'd listen to my complaints. They have their own set of priorities and agendas that doesn't include me. However, if I view google or ebay as a tool to help my sales, than I'm less likely to be left floating in the wind. I can abandon that tool and find another. What I found interesting about Mark's site is that it seems to be auctions geared toward a specific audience...niche. It doesn't presume to be everything to everybody. He's giving his customers a chance to combine the auction format with traditional e-commerce shopping. In the future, maybe we'll see the majority of niche e-commerce sites utilizing this type of software. You get your customer using the auction system and then you can cultivate the customer using traditional e-commerce techniques. But, here's the rub, you still have to get the customer. That's where e-bay has a big advantage. No matter what, they have the eyeballs. However, I will take a higher precentage of paying customers over plain eyeballs any day.Michael Weber Daddy Designs http://www.daddydesigns.com Original of the message was taken from http://www.auctionbytes.com/forum/phpBB/ Previous Post: Hi Cjoe1, Yes it is phpauction, but it is not an off the shelf ve...
